Massage or Facial? Which Treatment Does Your Skin Need

It is the classic spa question: massage or facial? The honest answer is that they are not competitors — they address different layers of the same story, the skin we live in and the tension we carry beneath it.

A massage works from the inside out. It moves blood, lengthens muscle and settles the nervous system — and that inner calm shows up on the face within days. Tension held in the jaw, neck and shoulders is one of the least-discussed causes of dull, tired-looking skin.

A facial, meanwhile, works from the outside in. Exfoliation, massage of the facial muscles and targeted hydration brighten the surface immediately. It is the fastest route to visible luminosity before an event or a season of photographs.

If your skin looks grey and your shoulders feel like stone, book the body treatment first. If your skin is the main complaint and you are otherwise rested, begin with the face.

Better still, alternate. A monthly rhythm of bodywork and facial care keeps both layers in dialogue — which is, after all, the entire philosophy of the spa.
